Emergency Weather Information & School Safety
Emergency messages, such as school closings due to hazardous weather, will be communicated through the district school messenger phone system (an automated phone system that calls all parents/guardians), the district website, and through our social media platforms (Facebook, X).

Designated Shelters
All Flagler County Schools are designated as shelters, depending on the nature of the event at hand. In the event of a hurricane or other inclement weather situation, Rymfire Elementary School (RES) is our designated Flagler County primary shelter.
Individuals with special needs will enter Building 7. General population will enter Building 6.
Bunnell Elementary School (BES) is our secondary designated shelter for the general population and animal shelter. Buddy Taylor Middle School (BTMS) and Wadsworth Elementary School (WES) will be designated shelters should the need arise for extra sheltering.
At this time, BTMS and WES are not considered animal shelters.
It is important to monitor local media and Flagler County Emergency Management to find out which shelters are open at the time of an incident.
Persons with special needs are highly encouraged to pre-register with Emergency Management so they can have access to a special needs shelter as well as receive evacuation assistance.
During an emergency is not the time to get on the "People with Special Needs" list. This is why it is extremely important to pre-register for a Special Needs Shelter.

Alert Flagler
ALERTFlagler is a no-cost countywide service that allows subscribers to sign up for a variety of emergency notifications based on their enrolled addresses.
This allows subscribers to customize notifications and their delivery method from a variety of choices, including phone calls, emails. SMS/text messages, or through a downloadable app. Please sign up or make changes to your account on the ALERTFlagler webpage by clicking the button provided below.
FortifyFL
The FortifyFL app is a suspicious activity reporting tool that allows anyone to instantly relay information to law enforcement and school officials. Students, staff, families, and members of the community can use the app to report school safety concerns anonymously and easily.
The Florida Legislature directed this tool’s development in the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Act. The app is critical to ensuring that all Florida schools are safe environments where students and educators can experience and share the joy of learning without fear.
When a report is made, the app is designed to send information to threat assessment teams, including the school resource officer assigned to each school. Some tips go directly to 911, for example, if a student was seen placing a gun in a backpack.
Flagler Schools encourages our families, students, and employees to download the FortifyFL app to their mobile devices. The app is available for download on the App Store and Google Play.
School Safety
Student safety is the highest priority at Flagler Schools. Every school in our district is staffed with deputies from the Flagler County Sheriff's Office to ensure a secure environment. Our District School Safety Specialist oversees district security and collaborates closely with local law enforcement agencies to maintain a strong, coordinated safety network.
Each year, Flagler Schools reviews and updates our crisis response plans, working hand-in-hand with local law enforcement, fire rescue, and emergency management to ensure we are prepared to respond effectively to a wide range of emergency situations.
In addition, Flagler Schools has adopted The Standard Response Protocol (SRP) developed and supported by the I Love U Guys Foundation. Students and staff receive regular training and participate in drills to ensure familiarity with this protocol.
The SRP is an all-hazards approach, designed to handle a variety of situations rather than focusing on individual scenarios. Like the Incident Command System, the SRP uses clear, common language while allowing flexibility to adapt to different incidents.
In partnership with the Flagler County Sheriff's Office, we provide timely updates through our official social media channels, District or School website, and Skylert. These platforms are your go-to sources for the most current and accurate information during a crisis. While there may be circumstances where it is in the best interest of students and staff to delay the release of certain details during an emergency, our goal is always to share accurate information as soon as it is safe and appropriate to do so.
